PlasticOmnium Automotive is a leading company of parts and plastic body modules. In order to keep his place and ahead of the European regulations concerning the emission of CO₂, it must test the air flow over cars. For this, the company uses models of turbulence geometry of several million cells.
We have two collaborations: the first one on a new formulation for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and the second one on large scale post-processing of computational fluid dynamics simulations.
Regarding the Ns2++ project, the aim is to study a formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations involving the eigenfunctions of the curl operator. This formulation would decompose the space and time in solution and thus simulate flows on larger period of time or on more specific geometries. First, we seek the eigen modes of the rotational operator reliably and efficiently. We then project the NS equation on the space span by these eigen modes to reduce the computational cost.
