Cemosis is present at ICIAM with several conferences in particular in

  • MS An overview of the societal impact of Industrial Mathematics and supporting infrastructures around the world
  • MS: EU-MATHS-IN: Success Stories of Applications of Mathematics to Industry

Céline Caldini Queiros will present Cemosis activities and how we are organized. Jean-Baptiste Wahl will present success stories in collaborating with industry. Romain Hild will present our research in high field magnet.

MS An overview of the societal impact of Industrial Mathematics and supporting infrastructures around the world

The Modeling and Simulation Center of Strasbourg was created in 2013 by Christophe Prud’homme and supported by the IRMA Laboratory and the CNRS, the Initiative of Excellence of the University of Strasbourg. The main lines of operation of Cemosis are understanding of the industrial problem, expert identification, the establishment of a work plan in project mode, provision of dedicated resources. The objective of Cemosis is to federate, not only the competencies in applied mathematics of Strasbourg, but also beyond by establishing collaborations with engineers, physicists, computer scientists or even biologists and doctors, in the long term, to offer a single portal to SMEs and SMIs and  larger companies in the Alsace region in modeling, simulation, optimization and data processing. Cemosis also relies on the Master in Scientific Computing and Mathematics of Information, whose students are associated with numerous industrial collaborations. This work also sometimes requires the use of powerful computing means (HPC); For this, Cemosis has set up a partnership with AlsaCalcul, the super-computing platform of the University of Strasbourg. This is the case in multi-physics modeling, combining, for example, solid mechanics, heat transfer and electromagnetism or when processing large data set. The collaborations set up with the companies cover the industrial domains such as automobile,  energy, aeronautics, but also the domains of health. We will present Cemosis, its operation, its relations with the Agency of Mathematics in Interaction with Entreprises and Society (AMIES) as well as a selection of collaborations.

In this talk, we will present a focus on one of the projects we have in the industry business in the energy sector.

Energy demand control has been an issue for a while. Reducing the consumption of households, buildings, territories countries is a key environmental issue: we would reduce fossils resources consumption and obviously CO2 emission.

In order to advance toward reducing energy consumption, we need to work to understand energy consumption.

In order to better understand energy consumption from an energy distributor’s clients, load curves from each client were saved during 30 mins. This information was then crossed with exogenous variables, such as external temperature, type of client, type of heating system, …
